Do cats have souls?

What greater gift than the love of a cat ....
— Charles Dickens (England) 1812-1870

Cats most definitely have souls. These beautiful enigmatic beings pass over to spirit very much in the same way that we do. Both Buddhist and Hindu religions believe in animal reincarnation, and I believe this to be true as well. Leaving behind the physical shell, a cat’s spirit begins its journey ‘home’ at death. The spirit is sometimes perceived as a spark of light leaving the body at the moment of death.

A friend’s beloved cat, Kizzy, recently died. My friend asked me whether I could help ensure (to the best of my ability) safe passage for Kizzy as she made her transition to the afterlife. I was delighted to do so, and it proved an interesting task, allowing me greater insight into the spiritual aspect of the feline species.

During the healing I was given much information clairaudiently. It was as though Kizzy was speaking out loud. Full of reassurance and love, this beautiful message was undoubtedly intended for my friend. Below is my transcript of what I heard, and how I have interpreted Kizzy’s message to her former owner.

Kizzy’s words during the healing are loving, kind and very spiritual in content.  They are also symbolic, so sometimes they require an intuitive way of understanding them.

Gratitude for the love shown to her

‘Workhouse’      ‘chosen one’

Kizzy is telling you how lucky she feels that you chose her from all the others in the Cat Rescue Centre.  She was the Chosen One.  She was down on her luck at this point in her life, abandoned and with no prospects.  As the first words in the healing, this also sets the focus and the tone of her message to you.  She feels truly blessed that you took her out of that situation.

‘Going to go’

Father Christmas dressed in his usual red and white outfit.  His face is covered in light.

Kizzy wants you to know that when she realised that you were taking her back to your home, it was like Christmas had arrived for her.  Father Christmas had just brought her everything she could have ever wished for.

‘Nothing to do tomorrow for you’

You looked after all her needs.  It brought great stability into her life, something she lacked before.  Now, she wants to repay that.  She wants you to have an easy time, and she will be helping you in many little ways from afar.

Part of the family

‘Little birdie, can’t get to you this time’

A nod to Kizzie eyeing the birds, as cat’s do!  But it is also a reference to her not being able to enjoy those little chats you used to have together.  Birds are symbols of everyday chatter and gossip.

Breaking away now

Adrenalin, stress and fear is felt in the body

‘Adjust’             ‘your birthday’               ‘take a break’

The healing is now helping Kizzy to adjust to her new circumstances.  It is the beginning of a new spiritual life, and she must break away from the Earth plane.  This is not easy.  It is a moment of fear into the unknown.

‘Darling, you’re in England’          ‘didn’t want to hobble on’

She now has to venture out of her comfort zone (England).  Spirit is reassuring Kizzy that it was becoming too difficult to carry on, and that it was her choice to pass over at this time.  She was adored, but it is the correct time.

Thank you for everything

‘Good grief’                   ‘I’m thankful to you’

Kizzy wants you to know that, although you are grieving, her death is positive.  She is thankful for everything you both did for her.

‘Getting on bravely’                    ‘thank you for your medicine’

Kizzy is saying here that the medicines you gave her during her final illness have helped in many ways, not least to ease her passage to the afterlife.

‘To go faster, faster, faster’

The medicines speeded up the process of death.  Rather than a prolonged agony, she was able to move on rapidly, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It is worth pointing out here that my friend was using natural medicines (such as herbal and homeopathic ones) and not pharmaceutical drugs.

Time to go

‘100, 80, I was just about fit’

Towards the end Kizzy felt very old indeed.  On a physical level she was just about managing.

‘6 o’clock in the morning.  Here she comes!’

Her usual energetic persona began to fade.   She simply couldn’t do it any longer.

Bliss as she joins her soul group in spirit

She starts to work through kittenhood trauma, and how she lost her family on Earth.   The message here is that she is now reunited with her family in spirit.

‘Hare Krishna, I’m dancing in bliss’            ‘all those children, the last one of yours’

Kizzy is saying that she was the youngest of the family.  Dancing expresses a sense of happiness and celebration, or a freedom of movement and emotion.  Here Kizzy is emphasizing the difference between her last moments on Earth, where she was physically very restricted in movement, and now.  She is free, and so happy to be reunited with her feline soul family.

She hasn’t forgotten her time on Earth, nor will she

‘Heart of mine, can’t wait’           ‘I can dance here too’                 ‘I’m the lucky one forever’

But Kizzy is insistent that, despite the joyful position in which she finds herself now, she hasn’t forgotten you.  You are both in her heart forever.  Her joy at reuniting with her feline soul family by no means diminishes the importance of her relationship with you.  She can hear your thoughts, and wants you to know that she is absolutely still in touch.  It is still a partnership (dance) despite the distance.  She appreciates how lucky she has been to live with you.

A good ending

‘Smile for my happiness’             ‘enjoyed the parking lot’             ‘right for me’

She wants you to know how much she appreciates your loving care in those final moments before she died.  And importantly where she was.  It was the right place for her to be.  A place from where she could contemplate her future with a sense of emotional strength and stability.  The parking lot represents the final resting place before the soul leaves the body.  She knows how upsetting that time was for you, but she wants you to let go of that.  This is a time for happiness not tears.

‘I’m not far from home’               ‘your brilliance’              ‘looking everywhere in the garden’

A nod to looking out for Kizzy when she was late to come home sometimes.  But more so, this refers to the shining lights that you both are, and how very caring you have been to her over the years.

‘Hear me, all the time.  Everywhere I go’

You were always conscious of her needs.

Earlier trauma

‘The first day I fell ill.  I wanted to go home.’

She wanted to go back to Spirit the first time she came a cropper. This may refer to a bad fall. Whatever it was had a devastating effect on her psyche.

‘There’s something else for you, don’t worry’        ‘the fall’            ‘never mind’      ‘I screamed’

This sounds like a very painful experience that Kizzy went through.  So bad that she just wanted to die.  At that point she could not see how her life could recover to the extent that it did.  It was a time of great anxiety for her.

The healing continues with conversations of reassurance and love at this moment in her life.  This may relate to when she lost her leg in an accident.

‘You’re lucky [luck key] things’                 ‘you two, just be careful’             ‘let be back soon’

Here Kizzy is saying that you taking her home was the key to opening the door of a new very happy life.  It was a moment of extreme luck!  As she perceives it.  Now she wants you to have the same luck.  She’ll be back soon to keep an eye on you, making sure that you have the best care she can provide from Spirit.

Caring from afar

‘Look after you’              ‘I’m melting’

Even though she is beginning to merge with Spirit, she’ll still be looking after you.

‘Noblesse, look after you’            ‘I will do it too’

She is blessed by your love.  On that higher note, she will definitely look after you as well. How could she not?  It would be unthinkable (noblesse oblige). This is a reversal of roles, and perfectly fits the idea of karmic rebalance. She is now doing for you what you once did for her. Taking care of you both from Spirit.

‘I’m only mutton dead’               ‘clear your fears’

Kizzy wants you to be in no doubt.  It’s just the physical body which has come to the end of its life.

Trust that she is still with them in spirit

‘Joy now’           ‘Jesus now’        ‘made the journey’

In case you are still fearing for her transition, she has made it!  Kizzy has reached the Other Side safe and sound.

‘I can laugh with you now’           ‘Haha!’

Reference to a haha (landscape gardening term).  She’s still around, but you can’t see her.  When you have a laugh at home, so does she.

Little blue light sinks to the ground

Kizzy is sending you trust (throat chakra) because she knows how difficult it is on Earth to truly believe what you can’t see.

‘I want you to promise me now’               ‘Get another one’

Kizzy doesn’t want you to feel that she is irreplaceable.  Promise her you’ll get another pet.

‘Can’t believe it’             ‘your choice’      ‘second hand’

She wants to emphasize how extraordinary it felt when you rescued her from the Cattery.  You chose her, and that was so special!  Now maybe it is the time for another cat to have that wonderful moment.

‘I’ll get in touch’

Kizzy is promising to remain in contact.
